About MultiPark (Future page 2025)
Multidisciplinary Neuroresearch on Parkinson´s and Alzheimer´s
Multidisciplinary research on neurodegenerative diseases and related brain disorders with the aim to better understand, treat, and cure.
Our roots
MultiPark means “Multidisciplinary research focused on Parkinson´s disease” Building on a tradition of excellence in dopamine research at Lund University, MultiPark originally focused exclusively on Parkinson’s disease when it was initiated in 2010.
Since then, our research program has expanded to incorporate Alzheimer´s disease, Huntington´s disease, and neurodegeneration secondary to brain trauma and stroke. Today, we have almost 50 research groups including everything from experimental researchers and chemists to doctors and health scientists.
To understand, treat, and cure
Our main scientific goals are:
- to understand the origins and progression of neurodegenerative disease
- To develop early and differential diagnostics and prognostics
- To create new therapeutic approaches for prevention, disease modification, and managing unmet medical needs.
Our vision is to create an innovative environment for the development of translational science, from bench to bed.
From molecule to patient
Our mission is to conduct multidisciplinary research. Our researchers gather regularly across disciplines in 12 special interest groups for in-depth discussions and planning of projects ranging from basic experimental studies to therapeutic interventions on the patients' everyday lives and societal participation.

A strategic research area
MultiPark is a strategic research area. On the recommendation of the Swedish Research Council, we receive governmental funding to create world-leading research. The MultiPark program relies on solid interactions between Lund University and Skåne University Hospital, with support from the University of Gothenburg.
